Overview
A Remio account is optional. You only have one if you signed in with Apple or Google to sync your paired devices across phones, tablets, and computers. If you've never signed in, there's nothing to delete — just uninstall the app.
If you do have an account and want it gone, you have two options below. Both result in the same outcome: your profile and all associated cloud data are permanently deleted.
The short version: Open the Remio app → Settings → Account → Delete Account. Or email us at privacy@remio.net. Done within 30 days, usually much faster.
Option 1 — Delete In-App (Recommended)
The fastest way is right inside the Remio app on any signed-in device:
- Open Remio on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC, or Android device.
- Go to Settings (gear icon) → Account.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm by typing your display name, then tap Delete Permanently.
The app immediately signs you out on every device and queues the deletion. Your Firestore profile, paired-device list, and any sync metadata are removed within minutes.
Don't have access to a signed-in device anymore? Skip to Option 2 — Delete by Email.
Option 2 — Delete by Email
If you can't access the app, send us an email and we'll process the deletion manually.
To verify the request belongs to you, send the email from the address linked to your account and include:
- Your account email (or "Apple Hide My Email" relay address)
- The auth provider you used (Apple or Google)
- Optionally, the display name you saw in the app
We'll confirm receipt within 2 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days, as required by GDPR and CCPA.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, every piece of personal data tied to it is permanently removed:
| Data | Where | Deleted? |
|---|---|---|
| Display name, email, avatar URL | Firestore /users/{uid} |
Yes |
| Paired device list & metadata | Firestore /devices/{deviceId} |
Yes |
| Auth credentials (Apple / Google link) | Firebase Authentication | Yes |
| Push notification tokens | APNs / FCM mapping | Yes |
| Active sessions on all devices | Local app state | Yes — signed out everywhere |
Once deletion completes, the account cannot be recovered. Sign-in attempts with the same Apple ID or Google account will create a brand-new, empty profile.
What's Retained
Honestly, almost nothing. Remio is built so we don't accumulate data we'd later have to defend keeping. The only things that may persist briefly:
- Anonymous crash reports — handled by Apple's crash reporting, not tied to your account, deleted by Apple within 30 days.
- Aggregated, non-identifying logs — server logs that show "a connection happened" with no link back to you, rotated within 14 days.
- Payment records — if you bought a subscription, Apple retains the transaction record for tax/accounting reasons. Apple is the merchant of record; we don't store payment details.
We never collected your screen content, keystrokes, files, or clipboard data in the first place — those flow peer-to-peer between your devices. There's literally nothing for us to delete on that front.
Timeline
- Immediately — You're signed out on every device. The app stops appearing in your paired devices list.
- Within minutes — In-app deletions remove your Firestore profile and Firebase Auth record.
- Within 2 business days — Email requests receive a confirmation reply.
- Within 30 days — Full deletion guaranteed, in line with GDPR Article 17 and CCPA §1798.105.
- Backups — Encrypted backups age out within 30 days; deleted records do not return when backups roll forward.
Subscriptions
If you bought a Remio subscription through the App Store or Google Play, deleting your account does not automatically cancel billing. Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google, not by Remio.
Cancel before deleting, here:
- iOS / iPadOS / macOS: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Remio → Cancel
- Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Remio → Cancel
If you delete your account while a subscription is active, you'll continue to be billed until you cancel through the store. Refund requests for unused time go through Apple or Google directly.
Changed Your Mind? Sign Back In
You can create a new Remio account at any time by signing in again with Apple or Google — but it will be a fresh, empty account. Your old display name, paired devices, and any settings tied to the deleted profile are gone forever.
If you simply want to switch devices or take a break, you don't need to delete your account. Just sign out (Settings → Account → Sign Out) and your data stays put for whenever you come back.
