LEGAL · TERMS OF SERVICE

Terms of service, plainly stated.

The agreement between you and Remio. Written in plain English so you can read it once and remember what you agreed to. No walls of legalese, no surprises.

§01

What Remio is

Remio is remote desktop software that lets a User access and control their own computer from another device over the internet. The Service streams desktop video and audio directly between your devices with low latency and end-to-end encryption.

In simple terms: Remio connects your phone, tablet, or another computer to your main computer, so you can use it as if you were sitting in front of it, from anywhere in the world.

§02

Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Remio — no hard feelings.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Remio. If you are using Remio on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have the authority to bind that organization to these terms.

§03

Your devices, your control

Remio does not require an account. There is no sign-up, no email verification, no password to remember. A User connects their Devices using a Pairing Code — and that is it.

This means:

  • You are responsible for who has physical access to your Devices.
  • You are responsible for keeping your Pairing Code private.
  • Anyone with access to your paired Devices can initiate a Session.

Think of it like your house keys: Remio provides the lock, but you are in charge of who gets a copy of the key.

§04

Acceptable use

Remio is a tool. Like any tool, it can be used well or misused. Here is what we expect from each User:

You may use Remio to

  • Access your own computers remotely.
  • Provide technical support to friends, family, or colleagues with their permission.
  • Work remotely, game, or manage servers.
  • Anything else that is legal and does not harm others.

You may not use Remio to

  • Access another person's computer without their explicit consent.
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or harmful software through a Session.
  • Engage in any illegal activity.
  • Attempt to circumvent the security measures of the Service.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Remio's software.
  • Use the Service in a way that could damage, overload, or impair our Connection Server.

Unauthorized access is a crime. Using Remio to access someone else's computer without their consent may violate laws including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (US), the Computer Misuse Act (UK), and similar legislation worldwide.

§05

Your responsibilities

When you use Remio, you are responsible for:

  • Your devices — keeping your Devices secure and up to date.
  • Your network — ensuring your internet connection meets the requirements for a good experience.
  • Your content — everything you do through a Session is your responsibility, just as if you were physically at your computer. This includes any Content you create, transmit, or store.
  • Consent — if you are connecting to someone else's device, make sure you have their permission.
  • Compliance — following all applicable laws in your jurisdiction.
§06

Intellectual property

Remio and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Remio and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal or business use in accordance with these terms.

You own everything on your computer. Remio does not claim any rights to your files, data, or other Content. We literally cannot even see them — remember, your stream goes directly between your devices, end-to-end encrypted.

§07

Disclaimers

We are building Remio with care, but we want to be upfront about a few things.

"As is" software

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

No guaranteed uptime

While we strive to keep our Connection Server running 24/7, we cannot guarantee 100% uptime. The connection server is only needed for the initial connection — once you are connected, your Session runs directly between your devices and is independent of our infrastructure.

Beta features

Some features may be marked as beta or experimental. These features are provided for testing and feedback purposes and may change, break, or be removed without notice.

In short: we do our best to make Remio reliable, but software is complex. Things might break sometimes. We fix bugs as fast as we can.

§08

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Remio and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from:

  • Your use or inability to use the Service.
  • Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data or transmissions.
  • Any interruption or cessation of the Service.
  • Any bugs, viruses, or similar issues that may be transmitted through third parties.

In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim. If you have been using Remio for free, our maximum liability is $0 — which is fair, given you paid us $0.

§09

Termination

A User can stop using Remio at any time by simply deleting the app. No cancellation process, no retention tactics, no "are you sure?" emails. Just delete it.

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms — particularly the acceptable use section.

Since Remio does not require an account, "termination" in most cases simply means we may block specific device identifiers from connecting through our Connection Server.

§10

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.

For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you — such as a notice within the app. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated terms.

We will not make changes that fundamentally alter the deal without giving you a heads-up. That would not be very nice of us.

§11

Governing law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law provisions.

Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the Service will first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. We would rather talk it out than lawyer up.

§13

Definitions

Throughout these terms, certain capitalized words have specific meanings. They are listed here for reference. Each chip in the text above links to the matching entry below.

USER
A person who downloads, installs, or uses Remio. This is you, when you use the app.
SERVICE
The Remio software, the related connection infrastructure, and any website, documentation, or feature provided under the Remio name.
DEVICES
Any computer, phone, tablet, or other hardware on which a User has installed Remio or that participates in a Session.
SESSION
A live, end-to-end encrypted connection between two Devices that uses the Service to stream video, audio, and input directly between them.
PAIRING CODE
The short alphanumeric code displayed by a Remio host to authorize a client to connect. Treat it like a password: never share it with anyone you do not trust.
CONNECTION SERVER
The Remio-operated server that helps two Devices discover each other and negotiate a direct connection. Once a Session is established, the connection server is no longer in the path of your data.
CONTENT
Anything visible, transmitted, stored, or generated on a User's Device during a Session — including but not limited to screen contents, files, keystrokes, audio, and clipboard data. Remio cannot see Content because it is end-to-end encrypted between the paired Devices.

Remote desktop, on your terms.

Install the host on the computer you want to reach. Install the client on the device you want to reach it from. End-to-end encrypted, direct between your devices, no account. The agreement above is the deal in plain English.

macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Windows, and Android. Free, all features.
