Your render is sitting at 80% on your Mac, and your phone has other jobs to do while it finishes. Picture in Picture shrinks the stream into a small floating window so you can keep an eye on the remote computer while you message, browse, or use another app — no need to keep Remio full-screen just to watch a progress bar.
Start Picture in Picture from the streaming toolbar, then leave Remio — the stream keeps playing in a small floating window on top of whatever you're doing. It's for watching, not controlling; go back to full view to type or click.
Start Picture in Picture
| Client | How to start it |
|---|---|
| iPhone / iPad | Tap the Picture in Picture button in the streaming toolbar, then leave Remio (go to the Home Screen or switch to another app). The stream keeps playing in the floating window — it doesn't cut off. Drag the window to any corner, or pinch it larger or smaller, the same way Picture in Picture works everywhere on iOS. |
| Mac | Press ⌘P, or use the Picture in Picture button in the toolbar. The stream pops into a small window that stays on top while you work in other apps. |
What you can (and can't) do in PiP
The floating window is for watching and listening: the video keeps streaming and audio from the remote computer keeps playing under it, exactly as it does in the full view. It's not for controlling the remote computer — clicks and keystrokes don't go through the small window. When you need to type or click, return to the full Remio view: tap the expand control on the PiP window on iOS, or press ⌘P again on the Mac.
It's a good fit for watching a long export, render, or download finish, keeping a dashboard visible, or checking on a build — all while you answer messages or use another app on the same device.
Troubleshooting
- PiP stops when I leave the app — update to the latest version of Remio; current versions keep the stream playing in the floating window when you switch away.
- No Picture in Picture button on Android or Windows — Picture in Picture is currently an iOS, iPadOS, and macOS client feature.
FAQ
Does the stream keep playing when I leave the Remio app?
Yes. Once Picture in Picture is active, leaving Remio doesn't stop the stream — it keeps playing in the floating window on top of whatever else you're doing.
Can I click and type from the floating window?
No, the floating window is for watching and listening only. To control the remote computer, return to the full Remio view.
Does PiP work on Android or Windows?
Not today — Picture in Picture is currently available on the iOS, iPadOS, and macOS clients.
