While you are connected, your device and the remote computer share one clipboard. Copy text in either place, paste it in the other — no button, no menu, no extra step. It works in both directions on every host (macOS, Windows, Linux) and every client (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows).
Copy on one side, paste on the other. That's it — it is on by default and rides the same end-to-end encrypted connection as your stream. Nothing you copy ever touches a server.
How to use it

One habit worth knowing: the shortcut belongs to the machine you are pasting into. Pasting into a remote Mac is ⌘V; pasting into a remote Windows PC is Ctrl+V — regardless of which device you are holding. On a touch client, the remote OS's own Edit menu or long-press paste works too.
What syncs today
- Text — snippets, URLs, passwords from a manager, code, anything on the text clipboard. This is what clipboard sync carries today.
- Images and files — not over the clipboard yet. To move a file, use file transfer; richer clipboard formats are on the list of things we're working toward.
Privacy: where your clipboard travels
Clipboard contents move inside the session's end-to-end encrypted channel — the same one that carries your screen and input. There is no cloud clipboard, no history stored anywhere, and even Remio's relay servers only ever see ciphertext. When the session ends, the sharing ends with it.
If you'd rather keep the two clipboards separate — say, on a shared computer — flip Clipboard sync off in the client's Settings. The stream and everything else keep working; only the clipboard stays local.
Troubleshooting
- Paste on the remote side gives the old contents — copy again with the session in the foreground; the clipboard syncs while you are connected, not retroactively.
- Nothing pastes on my device after copying remotely — check the client's Settings: clipboard sync may be switched off. On Android, some keyboards cache the clipboard — open the paste menu again.
- A password manager fill didn't carry over — some managers place passwords on the clipboard for only a few seconds before wiping it. Paste promptly, or use the manager's app on the remote machine itself.
- Very large text is truncated — extremely long clipboard payloads are capped for responsiveness. For documents, move the file instead with file transfer.
FAQ
Does clipboard sync work through the relay too?
Yes. Direct or relayed, the clipboard uses the same encrypted session — the relay carries ciphertext it cannot read.
Can I copy an image or a file?
Not through the clipboard yet — today it carries text. Use file transfer to send a file to the remote computer; it lands in its Downloads → Remio folder.
Is my clipboard shared when I'm not connected?
No. Sync only exists inside an active session. Disconnect, and the two clipboards are completely independent again.
